It was quiet beneath the garden.
Cool rain had passed, then paused.
The soil held its calm.

Milo rested there.

Round and small,
wrapped in waiting dark.

The soil held him—cool and crumbly.

Nearby, the earth loosened.
A narrow tunnel left the soil softer.

Nothing hurried.

The Deep Pantry held flavor steady.

Below, a Scent Veil stayed close.

Equal day and night.

The earth paused.

Soil.
Water.
Air.

Waiting.

Milo’s green skin

grew rounder.

The air held

a soft green sweetness.

The soil felt it first.

A small pressure—

soft

but steady.

Something inside him

was growing larger.

Milo held that growing feeling.

Rounder.

Fuller.

Like a small green bubble

taking a deeper breath.

The soil pressed around him—

then loosened slightly.

Grains shifted.

Not because Milo pushed.

Because something inside him

needed space.

Above the soil—

a tiny green curl

lifted the earth.

The green strand reached outward.

Then—

wrapped around

a small pebble

and held.

Nearby, the Soil Keeper attended.

Her emerald spade

caught the light once.

The soil kept its shape.

Milo rested again—

Round.

Full of beginning.

Spring had reached him.
