The Turning Quiet is where I keep the stories, essays, and ideas that make me stop and notice something.

Some begin with a question.

Some begin with something funny.

Some begin with a moment I don't quite understand yet.

I write picture books about children, animals, roots, shortcuts, names, mistakes, friendship, and the strange ways the world works.

I write essays about time, attention, memory, and what becomes important when you have lived long enough to look backward and forward at the same time.

And sometimes I build entire little worlds just to see what happens inside them.

There is no particular order to any of it.

Begin anywhere.
